Brazil’s first commercial bird flu case halts exports to major markets. The nation supplies more than one-third of the global export market, feeding the world’s growing appetite for chicken as consumers switch to cheaper protein alternatives and away from pricey beef. In the US, the strong demand and limited supplies already have been pushing up prices. Chicken breasts cost about $2.77 a pound, the highest since July 2022, according to the USDA.
