FDA Orders Food-Ingredient Disclosure

The new proposed federal rule would ask companies to notify the Food and Drug Administration when they introduce a new substance into food products and provide information on why they consider it safe. Health officials said they would also make public the information that companies provide about their new ingredients—a change that will allow food industry watchdogs and other groups to more closely scrutinize changes to the U.S. food supply.
