For shippers, the benefits include time saved and optionality. Salina Cruz is less than four days from Los Angeles and about 15 days from Shanghai — compared with as many as seven days and about 20 days, respectively, from Panama.  Mexican officials say cargo can cover the corridor’s 190-mile main line in seven hours, with the full port-to-port transfer completed in as little as 24.
